Recently me and my Husband Jim have decided to try and start thinking about what we buy and what we throw away. It’s just something we feel personally is a good idea especially because we have children and we want to make sure we leave them a beautiful planet. The first thing I noticed was the extreme amount of paper towels the house goes through. There are some situations that are good for paper towels but most of the time a Paper Towel Alternative is perfectly acceptable. Wiping down the table tops or drying off your hands are two perfect examples. Another one I didn’t really think about was dusting. I use a ton of paper towel unnecessary while dusting. I think it is important for us all to stop and take a look at what we are throwing away and ask ourselves… is it really worth it?

I have talked in the last few posts about finding a photographer and why I choose the photographers I do for my family. I really think people need to understand what they are paying for when choosing a photographer because family photographer charges differently. Some charge by the print and some charge by the digital image rights. Be sure to check with the photographer before buying photos or you might be spending more than you intended. The best thing I think however about choosing an independent photographer or a non chain studio, is the ability to have your photographs taken anywhere. Weather it be on your own property or in a beautiful park, a good photographer will meet you on location as well as give you direction. For those looking Family Photography Nashville you will have a wide variety of selection but be sure to select a photographer you can see work from and that has a great online reputation and representation of their studio!

If you are looking for a baby photographer you might be a bit surprised at the results. It seems there is no shortage of the super market brand name photographers but if you are looking for something a bit more special and unique you might be hard pressed to find a decent photographer in your area that isn’t charging an arm and a leg for shoots. I personally prefer taking my children to a professional photographer for one reason alone… quality. I’ve tried the chain brand studios and they are great if you enjoy having the same baby photos as everyone else but if you truly want something special you need a professional. One other thing I like about the professional studios is that you can commission photographers to come to you. Isn’t it much nicer to have photos taken on your own property? Not to mention not having to put up with the screaming babies and late appointments as other places! Anyways if you are looking for a great Baby kids photographer in Queens NY you shouldn’t have much of a problem! I have worked with a few who are highly professional and reasonably priced!

As a Mom who is at times forced to a bit more on the thrifty side I really appreciate a good product. Sometimes saving money isn’t just about spending the least amount for a products. It is also about how well the product works and how long it lasts. This is precisely why I really search around the internet for product reviews before I decided exactly what to buy. I have several places I check reviews but I always try to find at least one outside opinion than the shopping websites. Recently I found a perfect website for these types of reviews for baby products. The site is called BabyPinions. Not only do they have reviews on all kinds of everyday baby products and supplies but they also have a really neat “etsy watch” section. I love this because etsy has so many unique products for babies I often miss them because I never knew they existed! So if you are like me and want to know what others think of a product before you take the plunge or if you are just browsing for some really great products I would check out the BabyPinions website. Just be careful it can suck you in!

Diapers are expensive! There is just no way around it. You need them yet you never want to buy them! I have learned the hard way that finding a good supply of diaper coupons is really the best way to save money on baby supplies. There are a few places I go for coupons. I have joined many of the diaper manufacturer baby clubs. This puts me on all sorts of mailing lists but the problem with this is it can take up to six weeks to start receiving coupons from these types of offers and sometimes I don’t always have the coupon I need when I need it. There are a few coupon sites that allow you to print of selections of coupons but this doesn’t always do the trick either because again the selection is limited to what the manufacturers are offering at the time on that one particular website. Recently I have found that some people have started coupon specific blogs to track different types of coupons. These blogs like www.diapercouponsite.com report on the latest coupons from a number of different sites. This is sort of like your one-stop-shopping for diaper coupons type site. If you are looking for free diaper coupons I highly recommend checking out what’s available.

For a long time no one questioned what happened to the heaps of dirty diapers we were throwing out as a race each year. Now days we absolutely know that the plastic diaper is one of the biggest threats to our land fills. So as a busy Mother what are your options? Trust me I’ve tried going the cloth diaper route… it’s not pretty! Who has the time to pre-depoop each cloth diaper and then wash them then fold/put away! OMG I only have one little boy still in diapers, this option would be near impossible with twins lol. Good news though! I have found a solution biodegradable diapers! Now I don’t have to worry about killing the environment slowly with dirty plastic diapers yet I have the convince of a disposable diaper. I was really surprised at the competitive prices of biodegradable diapers compared to plastic ones! I even found some coupons available online for biodegradable diapers. Every area has their own brands available so check out online for size options and pricing! Honestly though it would be less expensive to use cloth diapers if you have the time but if not… Biodegradable diapers are perfect!

Traveling with a new baby can be a bit crazy at times and sometimes kid and baby travel doesn’t even seem like a vacation when things go wrong. Here are three tips that you may not think about when traveling with a baby or small child.

Be as careful packing as unpacking. Often times we concentrate so much on getting all of the right things in are bag the first time around we miss the things we are missing when we are unpacking our bags. It only becomes apparent that you have forgotten something when you need it and that might put you in for an emergency!

Set up everything you will need for changing, feeding, and playing with baby as soon as you arrive at your destination. A vacation is a time to relax so be sure to get the grunt work out of the way as fast as possible so that you can ease your mind and relax with your family. (This will also help you figure out if you have forgotten anything)

It seems simply but always, always, always travel with proper identification. It may even be necessary to bring a birth certificate along just in case. Even when traveling with in the country.

Now days it seems we are always spending money on the newest, latest, or greatest toy on the market only to keep up with our kids interest but how many of us really think about the educational value of the toys we buy our children. It seems like common sense to essentially kill two birds with one stone… education and entertainment but how can we balance our kids interest and still push the more educational toys on the market? The answer is really individual to each child as it is to each set of parents. Finding kids interest can sometimes be difficult and keeping their interest is even harder at times. Now you can find out great information about educational toys by visiting the Think Toys website. The blog has some really informative articles on what new types of educational toys are coming to the market and what parents are find works in their home as well as what new popular toys are out on the market! If you haven’t given much thought to the types of toys you have been buying your baby I encourage you to just have a look at a few articles. Understanding the benefits of something can really put method to madness.

As winter quickly approaches us I wanted to share a wonderful recipe I found on the Disney site a few years ago. It’s fun for the kids to make and eat and is seriously easy to clean up. One other note… you probably already have the materials in your fridge right now! Don’t get too excited yet however because you will still need one main ingredient and it’s seasonal! So whats our mystery ingredient? Snow! Children love freshly fallen snow. Not only is it fun to play in but if the snow in your area is relatively clean you can also enjoy it as a tasty frozen treat! kids holiday cooking recipes

Eating just plan snow is no fun however so try grabbing your cream dispenser and adding about 1 cup cream to about 4-6 cups of snow. Add half a cup of sugar and half a teaspoon of vanilla extract an viola! You have snow cream! My kids enjoy adding the same traditional toppings to their snow cream as they would any ice cream but parents be ware! Snow cream will turn into a dripping mess if not chilled or eaten quickly so we like to put it in frosty mugs and add straws! If you have any cream chargers you can add a bit of whipped cream to the top and of course a cherry!

For those parents who are a bit more health conscious I have also subed splenda in this recipe or reduced the sugar amount to 1/3 a cup. You might also consider using half and half with just a splash of real cream. I do have to say that one of the best things about this recipe is the cream!

Another great beverage for the season is making traditional hot chocolate on the stove with milk. The first time I made this recipe with my kids my husband had to admit he had never seen someone “cook” hot chocolate on the stove lol!

For hot chocolate heat about 4 cups of whole milk or a fat free/skim mix with half and half on medium heat for a few minutes. Make sure to keep stirring or you will curdle your milk! Toss in 2/3 cup semi sweet chocolate chips. Keep heating and stirring until chips have dissolved. Remove from heat and ad a dash of salt and a dash of vanilla extract and whisk in. You can also add some peppermint extract or cinnamon if you wish. Always top with marshmallows =D
